Abstract

Greek has a set of primary adpositions (most often referred to as primary prepositions, hence I use the words adposition and preposition as interchangeable in this entry) which can also function as → preverbs, as in most other Indo-European languages (see Pinault 1995, Schwyzer 1950, Luraghi 2003; on Hom. Gk. see further Chantraine 1953, Horrocks 1981). They constitute a closed lexical class, as opposed to other adpositions.
