The authors address some issues related to museums and tourist development of the territory of the Regional Natural Park of Lessinia through a series of natural and geographical notes. Themed museums that illustrate the naturalistic, ethnographic, historical and paleontological features of the Dolomites, are located in the main towns in the area between Valpolicella and Valle d’Alpone. The “Lessinia Museum System” consists of seven main thematic museums, among which the most important is in Bolca, which is a center of attraction, even international, thanks to the adjoining exhibition structures that induce a discrete economic benefit through cultural tourism. The “Lessinia Museum System” promotes the environmental and cultural resources of the Park in order to enhance the economic development, especially of the tourism, without damaging the natural environment. The research carried out by the authors allowed to deepen the knowledge of the demand for recreational and cultural tourism in Lessinia and to identify the importance of an ongoing relationship between institutions and people. The subject has provided an opportunity to consider the issues related to the management of the territory, which is still rarely addressed in research conducted to estimate the value of recreational or cultural interest areas, characterized by natural treasures and cultural heritage. The outcome highlighted the existence of a clear connection between the objectives pursued by the museum system management and consequent social benefits. In conclusion, the appropriate use of assessment methodologies to evaluate the environmental assets can be a valuable analytical tool, which plays a significant role in the management of the territory, particularly in the cultural institutions activities planning.
