The Bezirksauschuss of the Prussian Kingdom and the Provincial Administrative Board (PAB) of the Kingdom of Italy have not been the object of in-depth studies by either Italian or German historians. The two institutions may be considered in comparative terms especially for their genesis which takes place in the same time span (1883 and 1888),and as part of a process of administrative restructuring. Analogies from the functional point of view are indeed striking: both institutions are called upon to control the work of municipal administrations and are the recipients of jurisdictional complaints. Their composition is also quite similar. The similarity of the two institutions gives a hint of a kindred political and administrative culture as well as of an affinity of constitutional architectures.
