In order to verify PAL inducibility as a parameter for evaluating the resistance / susceptibility degree of a rice cultivar to a given Pyricularia grisea isolate, we tested elicitors prepared from 7 different strains of P. grisea for their ability to induce P AL activity in suspension cultured celIs of eight rice cultivars. Results so far obtained do not allow to establish a reliable correlation between the two parameters investigated.

Abstract

In order to verify PAL inducibility as a parameter for evaluating the resistance / susceptibility degree of a rice cultivar to a given Pyricularia grisea isolate, we tested elicitors prepared from 7 different strains of P. grisea for their ability to induce P AL activity in suspension cultured celIs of eight rice cultivars. Results so far obtained do not allow to establish a reliable correlation between the two parameters investigated.
