The purpose of the paper is to investigate the conservation of the minor goods in a perspective of compatible use with the character, identity and memory of a place in order to initiate actions of urban and territorial regeneration. In particular, it’s intended to present a research that has had as a case study the historical centre of Caselle in Pittari, a small village within the National Park of Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni. The southern Cilento suffers, to date, a general territorial disadvantage that, while on the one hand causes depopulation and abandonment, on the other has allowed to preserve the identity characteristics of the place. The research has set the analysis on three distinct levels of knowledge: the territorial scale of the rural area within which the village is located, in order to delineate critical points and opportunities, the territorial, historical and evolutionary analysis of the village, which is followed, at the building scale, an action of cataloguing all the buildings of the village in order to map them as in use or abandoned, the types of buildings and of construction, the period of dating and the state of conservation. Outcome of the work is the proposal for the entire village, exportable in the method to other contexts, of a project of Albergo Diffuso (AD), a new type of hospitality that, enhancing its authenticity, creates a sustainable and noninvasive tourist flow, through a network of collective services for accommodations and extra hotels able to trigger a process of regeneration of the area, reducing the depopulation and abandonment.
