In light of the significant rural-urban migration flows in LDCs and the connected economic, social and political implications, the paper has two main targets. First, it defines a stylized CGE model for the macroeconomic analysis of the middle term effects of the phenomenon on poverty, inequalities and output. Second, it tries to understand whether an increase in urban demand of labour can be alone an incentive for a balanced growth or it should go with an improvement in agricultural producing capacities in rural areas.

Abstract

In light of the significant rural-urban migration flows in LDCs and the connected economic, social and political implications, the paper has two main targets. First, it defines a stylized CGE model for the macroeconomic analysis of the middle term effects of the phenomenon on poverty, inequalities and output. Second, it tries to understand whether an increase in urban demand of labour can be alone an incentive for a balanced growth or it should go with an improvement in agricultural producing capacities in rural areas.
