The flow field generated by the interaction of two turbulent wall jests injected along the sides of a thin rectangular tank is investigated both sperimentally and with numerical simulations. The aim of the present study is, on one side, to describe this previously not documented flow and, on the other side, to verify the possibility of reproducing some of the flow characteristics using numerical simulation. This phenomenon shows the interesting feature that, under symmetrical boundary conditions, either a stable and asymmetrical flow field or a periodically oscillating one can appear, depending on the geometry of the tank and/or on the jet flow rates. Both commercial codes tested, FIDAP and FLOW3D, could predict the stationary flow field, while the unsteady case could be reproduced only by the former, athough without correct temporal scales.
