Abstract

In this paper we propose a new paradigm of web interaction we devised to make e-commerce sites more “natural” and easy to use. In our model, as in real stores, users interact with the goods on the shelves through “direct manipulation”; the shopping cart is always visible, allowing customers continuously to monitor and access its contents at any time. We describe the architecture and use of our prototypal system (implemented with Macromedia Flash and characterized by advanced interactivity and multimedia integration) while emphasizing the novelty and usability benefits of the approach.
