The contribution “The problem of matching innovative research products and teachers’ expectations” by Anna De Ambrosis and Olivia Levrini concerns a study carried out within the Module B on Relativity of the IDIFO Master Course. The study allowed us to focus on the complexity of the process the teachers have to go through in order to master innovative proposals, to compare them with more traditional ones and to design their own path for the class work. In particular, Taylor and Wheeler’s approach for teaching special relativity has been analyzed, discussed and compared with Resnick’s proposal, already known by most of the teachers involved in the study. Data collected during the work allowed us to reconstruct the path followed by the group of teachers in order to appropriate the new approach. Some hypotheses on the characteristics an innovative proposal should have to be accepted and critically used by teachers are proposed.
