Abstract

The essay investigates the Gothic renderings of some typical Johannine nouns, adverbs and verbs. The survey of the Gothic translation of the key words of the Gospel of John helps shed light on some aspects of the translation techique and of the language of the Gothic version. The multiple renderings in particular suggest an effort to convey different theological nuances of the Greek words. Moreover, it results that some renderings are shared by the Latin Codex Brixianus and by the Graeco-Latin bilingual Codex Bezae.
