This paper describes the power management approaches in a wireless sensing unit for structural monitoring applications. The wireless sensing unit is designed for some types of sensors with different power requirement and it is mainly based on the advanced System on Chip low power transceiver. The power management module of the unit mainly consists of low quiescent current Low Dropout (LDO) linear regulator and switching regulators which feature a low quiescent current, a highly efficient power conversion, an adjustable output voltage and a medium output power. As a result, the designed and prototyped unit is suitable for both low-power and non low-power sensors.

Abstract

This paper describes the power management approaches in a wireless sensing unit for structural monitoring applications. The wireless sensing unit is designed for some types of sensors with different power requirement and it is mainly based on the advanced System on Chip low power transceiver. The power management module of the unit mainly consists of low quiescent current Low Dropout (LDO) linear regulator and switching regulators which feature a low quiescent current, a highly efficient power conversion, an adjustable output voltage and a medium output power. As a result, the designed and prototyped unit is suitable for both low-power and non low-power sensors.
