We give an overview of theoretical and experimental results obtained with high-quality and small volume photonic crystal cavities in silicon thin slabs. In particular, we concentrate on enhanced nonlinear optical processes such as second- and third-harmonic generation under continuous wave excitation, and optical bisability.
