The main trends of landscape trasformation are described in four areas of Lombardy Region in N-Italy (Alpine region, Prealpine region, Po plain and Apennine) on the bases of the land cover classes of land use maps drawn in 1955, 1980, 1999 and 2007. The effects of the observed trends on vegetation and plant biodiversity are summarized.
