In the last 30 years higher education systems in Europe have underwent and experienced several reform policies waves introducing market-like and New Public Management devices and tools in the sector along the neo-liberal agenda. These reforms have impacts on three main levels, namely: a) on the systems' structure and functioning and their relations with the State; b) on the institutions' internal organization and functioning; c) on the structure of academic profession and academics' work conditions. The chapter focuses on this last dimension aiming at presenting evidences on how reforms have produced effects on the academic profession and on how they are perceived and evaluated by academics. With these aims and focus, a quantitative analysis is carried out based on the international survey The Changing Academic Profession data.
