The chapter takes an areal perspective and examines the mutual influences in negative patterns between Finno-Ugric and Turkic languages in the Volga-Kama region. The region has long contact history between these linguistic groups and many influences have been observed not only in the form of lexical borrowings but also in phonology and grammar. In this area language contact has left its mark in the domain of negation as well. Contact induced phenomena have been observed both in standard negation structures and in prohibitives.

Abstract
The chapter takes an areal perspective and examines the mutual influences in negative patterns between Finno-Ugric and Turkic languages in the Volga-Kama region. The region has long contact history between these linguistic groups and many influences have been observed not only in the form of lexical borrowings but also in phonology and grammar. In this area language contact has left its mark in the domain of negation as well. Contact induced phenomena have been observed both in standard negation structures and in prohibitives.File in questo prodotto:
