The prose and poetry of Ennodius shows that he is a careful reader of classical authors and in the last years critics have clearly demonstrated this aspect of the culture of the bishop of Pavia. The present study aims to illustrate the importance of Ovid's poetry in the literary memory of Ennodius, demonstrating that in his works there are direct references according to the usual criteria of intertextuality, but, especially in his poetic works, Ennodius assimilates the Ovidian stylistic lesson using of various linguistic and phraseological elements from his model and so adopting a recognizable "ovidian color".
