Il territorio dell'esistenza. Francesco Biamonti (1928-2001)

The PhD Thesis is devoted to the study of the work and the poetics of Francesco Biamonti (1928-2001). It proposes a critical analysis showing the connections between the writing of the author, in both its themes and its stylistic choices, and its underlying cultural influences. Biamonti’s novels appear as an attempt to express his personal vision of the world and the human condition, which the Italian writer developed as autodidact all along his life. Framing this vision cannot ignore the considerations of the author about the Ligurian west territory, represented through its twentieth century transformations and its contemporary topics. Thus, the juxtaposition of the words territory and existence in the title suggests the first key to read this work by. The PhD Thesis is articulated in three main parts. The first part, through the study of the narrative space, analyses Biamonti’s reflections on the Mediterranean and European history; moreover, it contains the literary mechanisms and the mythopoietic processes characterizing the representation of the Ligurian territory and the French “Elsewhere” in the novels of the author. The second part is concerned with the study of the characters and, in light of a series of philosophical readings, it examines Biamonti’s conception of the human reality and existence. The third and final part explores the idea of artistic creation and highlights specific characteristics of Biamonti’s prose and its lyricism from both a textual and a theoretical perspective.

La presente tesi è dedicata allo studio dell’opera e della poetica di Francesco Biamonti (1928-2001). L’analisi critica esplora i legami tra la scrittura dell’autore, tanto nei suoi contenuti quanto nella sua veste stilistica, e l’esperienza culturale che la sottende. I romanzi biamontiani si configurano, indubbiamente, come un tentativo di esporre in forma artistica una personale visione del mondo e dell’uomo, che lo scrittore italiano elaborò, da autodidatta, nel corso della sua vita. Si tratta di una visione che non può prescindere dalla riflessione sul territorio del Ponente ligure, rappresentato da Biamonti nelle trasformazioni dettate dal XX secolo e nella sua attualità. L’accostamento dei termini territorio ed esistenza nel titolo suggerisce così una prima chiave di lettura dell’intero lavoro. La tesi si articola in tre grandi parti. Nella prima parte, lo studio dello spazio narrativo favorisce l’analisi della visione biamontiana della storia mediterranea ed europea, e mostra i meccanismi di trasfigurazione e i processi mitopoietici che caratterizzano nei romanzi la rappresentazione del Ponente ligure e dell’“altrove” francese. La seconda parte propone uno studio dei personaggi e approfondisce, alla luce di una serie di letture filosofiche, la concezione di Biamonti della realtà umana e dell’esistenza. Infine, la terza parte analizza l’idea di creazione artistica e sottolinea alcune caratteristiche della prosa biamontiana e del suo lirismo in una prospettiva sia testuale sia teorica.
