This inquiry concerns D. 49.14.31 (Marcian. 4 inst.) and D. 49.14.32 (Marcian. 14 inst.), two fragments that provide insight on the legal status of hostages deported in Italy. The question is whether roman citizenship was given to some of them, through the granting of the so called usus togae. To answer this, we will compare D. 49.14.32 with two imperial edicts by Claudus (the tabula Clesiana: CIL V, 50) and Hadrian (119 AD): AÉ 2012, 1082, AÉ 2013, 2182, AÉ 2013, 2184.

Abstract
This inquiry concerns D. 49.14.31 (Marcian. 4 inst.) and D. 49.14.32 (Marcian. 14 inst.), two fragments that provide insight on the legal status of hostages deported in Italy. The question is whether roman citizenship was given to some of them, through the granting of the so called usus togae. To answer this, we will compare D. 49.14.32 with two imperial edicts by Claudus (the tabula Clesiana: CIL V, 50) and Hadrian (119 AD): AÉ 2012, 1082, AÉ 2013, 2182, AÉ 2013, 2184.File in questo prodotto:
