The current economic, policy and social changes affecting the EU agriculture make competitiveness an unavoidable choice both for farmers and policies and a key component of the regional cohesion strategy. In this context, the analysis first provides a set of suitable indicators of the stat and evolution of agricultural competitiveness at the regional level on the basis of which a sample of 17’ regions at NUTS 2 level are classified in order to verify the existence convergence clubs, . The analysis make reference to the time period 1994-2003 and is based on three methodologies: the Kohonen Self-Organizing Maps as clustering technique and the parametric and non parametric approach for testing convergence.
