OBJECTIVES: to evaluate time and spatial distribution of hospitalization due to neurological diseases in the province of Pavia (Lombardy Region, Northern Italy). DESIGN: ecological study. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS: the study was performed on aggregate data of people residing in the province of Pavia in the period 2005-2014. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: hospital discharge records of neurological diseases and raw and standardized hospitalization rates. RESULTS: hospitalization due to neurorogical diseases in the Province of Pavia showed a slight decreasing trend in time. For the year 2014, the spatial analysis of hospitalizations highlights excesses of risk in the Lomellina district, both in males and in females. CONCLUSION: spatial analysis confirms previous results on specific neurological diseases and suggests more detailed analysis on hospitalization excesses in Lomellina area.
