The rheological properties of blood are essential to a full understanding of the function of the circulatory system. Due to the difficulty of obtaining carefully controlled measurements in vivo, in this paper we present an original semi-automatic capillary viscometer which allows for a rapid determination of both the general and the apparent capillary blood viscosities in pseudo-vivo conditions. The filtering method adopted in the apparatus allows to extract the blood viscosity under the real condition experimented by the red cells in the human artero-capillary district, measurements that are impossible to achieve with the traditional rotational method. The hemodynamical characterization allows to extract additional parameters that can be used as an indication of the presence of particular hemorheological pathologies.
