In this paper we prove the existence of a global solution to the quasistationary phase field model of Penrose-Fife type. For the proof we combine a time discretization of the system with some a priori estimates, one of which is unusual. The passage to the limit is based on an appropriate compactness argument, which has been especially devised for this problem.
