Review of two books about italian traditional folk music. Both have a strong reflexive setting. The first is co-autored by the musician who's at the center of the book, the second is written in an autobiographical form. In both the books the point of departure is not the music but the musicians, what music means for them, their relationship with music, their memories, apprenticeship and performance practices. In the first case we are in Calabria, in a performance context of mostly non religious preformances, while in the second we are in Abruzzo, in a performance context mostly religious.
