Abstract

Music is a significant means not only for shaping a new understanding of a transnational cultural identity, but also for creatively intervening to shape public opinion on cultural, ethnic and religious diversity in contemporary Italy. For this reason, since 2014, as part of a large research project on music and migration, I have documented with my students the musical practices performed by migrants in the province of Cremona. The intent is not only to document, but also to enhance this heritage. The ultimate goal is the creation of a participatory public archive, but the path to create it is still ongoing.
