Objectives: the objective of the study is to evaluate six remineralising systems and their prophylactic effect against enamel lesions, caused by multibracket orthodontic therapy, and early detachment of brackets. Materials and method: One hundred forty freshly bovine incisors were used and randomly divided into 7 groups (20 per group): group-1 was the control group (no treatment); group-2 was treated with Ozone DTA (Sweden & Martina SpA), group-3 with Regenerate™ (Unilever, Netherlands) toothpaste, group-4 with the Zendium® toothpaste (Unilever, Netherlands); group-5 with Curasept Biosmalto Denti Sensibili® (Curaden Healthcare S.p.A.) toothpaste, group-6 with Curasept Biosmalto Protezione Carie® (Curaden Healthcare S.p.A.) toothpaste, group-7 with Iniker fill® (Sweden & Martina SpA). All the brackets were bonded using the same technique with transbond XT (3M Unitek, Monrovia, CA). All the bonded specimens were stored for 24h in deionized water (37°) and subjected to thermal cycling for 800 cycles. The SBS was measured using an Instron Universal Testing machine. Each tooth surface was examined under a stereomicroscope at 10x magnification to evaluate the amount of the adhesive remnant index (ARI). One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Turkey’s honestly significant difference post-hoc test were used to compare SBS values between groups (p < 0,05). Variations among ARI scores were assessed using the Chi-square test. Results: The Turkey test showed significant statistical differences among the six investigated groups (P < 0.05). Ozone DTA (42.99 ± 31,09 MPa); Iniker fill (41.44 ± 30.78 MPa) and Curasept Biosmalto Denti sensibili (32.14 ± 18.32 MPa) groups had the higher SBS while Curasept Biosmalto Protezione carie (24.04 ± 15.87 MPa), Zendium (24.76 ± 13.72 MPa) and Regenerate™ (15.99 ± 17.33 MPa) had the lower SBS. Ozono and Regenerate™ groups showed to have most frequently an ARI score = 2, otherwise Zendium, Curasept Biosmalto Denti sensibili and Curasept Biosmalto Protezione carie had more often an ARI = 1 (P < 0.05). Conclusion: All the treatment tested did not compromise the SBS values; Ozone DTA, Curasept Biosmalto D.S. and Iniker fill showed a higher SBS score compared with other agents.
