We observed a 30% relative decrease in the surgical activity and a significant 60% reduction in new diagnoses of melanoma during the lockdown period. As in our department, the waiting list for excision of a suspect melanoma is less than a week and we believe that the fewer diagnoses of melanoma reflect the reduction in dermatological consultations during the lockdown. The consultation postponement may lead to undetected or late detected skin cancers with higher morbidity and mortality. Finally, health care costs of treating a late-stage vs an early-stage melanoma have to be considered.

Abstract
We observed a 30% relative decrease in the surgical activity and a significant 60% reduction in new diagnoses of melanoma during the lockdown period. As in our department, the waiting list for excision of a suspect melanoma is less than a week and we believe that the fewer diagnoses of melanoma reflect the reduction in dermatological consultations during the lockdown. The consultation postponement may lead to undetected or late detected skin cancers with higher morbidity and mortality. Finally, health care costs of treating a late-stage vs an early-stage melanoma have to be considered.File in questo prodotto:
