The exercise of the proconsulare imperium conferred on the princeps – unlike the proconsulare imperium extra urbem so-metimes granted to the designated to the succession or to the coregents – does not necessarily imply the contextual use, in the im-perial formula, of the title of proconsul. We can therefore conclude that Cassius Dio, while not correctly identifying the different stages of development of the Augustan regime between 27 and 19 BC, described, however, with extreme precision the powers that made up the imperial office in the Principate and their exact nomenclature.

Abstract
The exercise of the proconsulare imperium conferred on the princeps – unlike the proconsulare imperium extra urbem so-metimes granted to the designated to the succession or to the coregents – does not necessarily imply the contextual use, in the im-perial formula, of the title of proconsul. We can therefore conclude that Cassius Dio, while not correctly identifying the different stages of development of the Augustan regime between 27 and 19 BC, described, however, with extreme precision the powers that made up the imperial office in the Principate and their exact nomenclature.File in questo prodotto:
