$e universities of the Department of Tolima in Colombia do not have an established academic tradition for either design or architectural restoration. In fact, it is only since 2006 that the University of Ibagué has o#ered the !rst institutional summer course in restoration. $is course has allowed the introduction and the development of di#erent important themes for the formation of architects: architectural design, history of architecture and conservation projects for the preservation of cultural patrimony. $is papers illustrates two international academic experiences that can demonstrate the importance of the study of design for restoration projects.
