Abstract

The political and social plurality of different cultures implies diversity in the definition of the concept of Cultural Heritage conceived by local communities. In Colombia, in particular, the topic of tangible and intangible Cultural Heritage needs authoritative tools and methods to initiate a correct conservation procedure, together with the training of operators. In Colombia, the preservation of cultural heritage is affected by the changing situation of society and its ever-changing process. For this reason, the choice of reference values in a conservation project also requires a very thorough knowledge of the territory and its needs. This paper illustrates an example of an architectural restoration of an ancient railway station recovered as a result of a long archival, anthropological and sociological work that has also made it possible to implement an interesting program of active participation of the local community. What is described here is the result of an educational research work that developed during the course of "Restoration of Architecture", carried out at the University of Ibagué, Architecture Program between 2010 and 2020.
