The paper analyzes the development of the eclectic culture in Europe from the mid-eighteenth century to the early twentieth century. The Eclecticism is a conceptual approach that does not hold rigidly to a single paradigm or set of assumptions, but instead draws upon multiple theories, styles, or ideas to gain complementary insights into a subject, or applies different theories in particular cases. On this basis the contribution illustrates the cultural reasons that led to the birth of this eclectic movement and to compare the different solutions adopted in Europe.
