Although fistula historically has been the most common complication in hypospadias surgery, with a frequency up to 11%, the incidence has decreased during the last 20 years to less than 5%. Rarely some small fistulas resolve spontaneously. Nonetheless, recurrence is still possible. Many solutions are available to decrease the incidence of fistula, such as use of better suture materials, microsurgical instruments, magnification, silicone catheters or stents, reliable postoperative dressing and vascularized island flaps to protect the neourethra the use of flaps to cover the neourethra has been shown to decrease the incidence. We report our experience to prevent and to repair urethrocutaneous fistula in hypospadias surgery.
