The new century saw the emergence of a new cause in international cultural politics: the combat for “cultural diversity”. To the words like “human rights”, “interculturality”, “human heritage”, “cultural policies”, we unit another important concept that needs a clear explication: Cultural Diplomacy. Differences in culture are often cited as roadblocks to international cooperation. However, when viewed through a different lens, culture can reveal numerous opportunities for establishing meaningful connections. This paper aims to analyze the exact role that culture should play in diplomacy and in international dialogue. For this reason, important historical experiences will be reanalyzed like a demonstration of the development of the modern “Cultural Diplomacy”.
