The paper presents a systematic review of the archaeological data available for the settlement of Verucchio during the Iron age. In particolar, it focuses on settlement data, from the Project led by the University of Pavia, which show an early nucleation process ongoing since the final Bronze Age, that will eventually lead to the formation of a protourban centre during the late 9th and 8th century BC. The settlement data are mirrored by the necropolis studies, which show how the society of Verucchio during these centuries self-represented themselves.

Abstract

The paper presents a systematic review of the archaeological data available for the settlement of Verucchio during the Iron age. In particolar, it focuses on settlement data, from the Project led by the University of Pavia, which show an early nucleation process ongoing since the final Bronze Age, that will eventually lead to the formation of a protourban centre during the late 9th and 8th century BC. The settlement data are mirrored by the necropolis studies, which show how the society of Verucchio during these centuries self-represented themselves.
