The linguistic and structural analysis of the account of the famous episode of Menenius Agrippa by Livy (2,32) shows that the historian does not simply want to expose the facts, but aims to represent the ancient politician by assigning him the characteristics of a good orator with topics that the rhetorical tradition recognizes as typical of the ancient age.
