At the time Giuseppe Tartini lived, the bows of string instruments were in full evolution. In accordance with the repertoire, but also with geographic tradition, bows could vary in length as well as the shape of the tips and horsehair attachment. In order to retrace the long path that led to the standardized bow as we know it today, the musical iconography (paintings, drawings, etc.), musical treatises (especially regarding violin techniques) and the testimony of correspondences are of fundamental importance, owing to the very small number of bows we have today dating to that era.

Abstract
At the time Giuseppe Tartini lived, the bows of string instruments were in full evolution. In accordance with the repertoire, but also with geographic tradition, bows could vary in length as well as the shape of the tips and horsehair attachment. In order to retrace the long path that led to the standardized bow as we know it today, the musical iconography (paintings, drawings, etc.), musical treatises (especially regarding violin techniques) and the testimony of correspondences are of fundamental importance, owing to the very small number of bows we have today dating to that era.File in questo prodotto:
