In this paper the authors have examined some initial epidemiological data (number of patiens, age, sex, method of arrival, length of stay, comparison between anticipated and real length of stay) related to different psychiatric centres (Psychiatric Clinic of the University of Genoa, Psychiatric Clinic of the university of Pavia, Service for Psychiatric Diagnosis and Treatment - SPDC of Ospedale San Martino, Genoa) during a period of 14 months. The statistical evaluation and comparison of the data allow some reflections and hypotheses about the number and frequency of hospitalizations and admissions and their different characteristics in relationship to the different centres and clinical-staff
