OBJECTIVES This case report aims to highlight how laser surgery allows surgery to be carried out without bleeding, without stitches and with reduced need for pharmacological therapy thanks to the anti-edema and an ti-inflammatory actions induced by the laser light itself. There are many benign lesions of the oral mucosa and, among these, mucocele is also included. Generally, this oral lesion, also known as minor salivary gland submucosal cyst, is subjected to surgical excision with a cold blade in conventional therapy, re sulting in intra-operative bleed ing and difficulty in the healing process. MATERIALS AND METHODS The treatment of a mucocele is described by removal with la ser-surgery, using a diode laser of 810 nm wavelength, with continu ous emission mode, emission power 3 W, fluence of 900 J/cm2 and diameter of the optical fiber 320 mm. CONCLUSIONS Laser-surgery represents an al ternative way to remove lesions of the oral cavity, resulting in greater patient compliance and quicker surgical intervention. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE It is highlighted how this excision technique allows the operator to have a perfectly clean operating field, no bleeding, no need for stitches.
