Possession in general is a favourite topic in linguistic typology and there is much interest for inalienable possession and about kinship terms. In this paper empirical data drawn from a sample of European and Mediterranean languages are examined in order to highlight what is common and what is different in these languages as far as inalienable and emphatic possession is concerned.
