In 2022, the architectural restoration course at the University of Pavia signed an agreement with the Diocese of Vigevano, Parish of Lomello, to contribute to the understanding and conservation of this important sacred site located in an area of great importance for rice production. The Basilica is situated in the historic center of this small town in the Lomellina region, where the local community was involved in numerous activities. Since October 2022, the architectural restoration course has been based in this Basilica, and every activity has been carried out with the goal of gaining deep knowledge of this heritage while also enhancing its value with the help of the local community. Thanks to this academic experience, a new methodological approach has been explored and developed. This work aims to showcase this academic approach, where dialogue between the academic community, the ecclesiastical community, and the local population enabled the activation of cultural and social initiatives, resulting in significant urban and spiritual regeneration. The Basilica is a Jubilee site and will celebrate its millennium in 2025.
