The Carmen de passione domini, attributed to Cyprian or Lactantius, is an anonymous poem for which several hypotheses of dating have been proposed. This article analyzes the content, structure and style of the poem: the author is consciously about Classical and Christian poetic tradition, and dramatizes the Holy Passion narrative by means of an epigraphic setting of the text, in which crucified Christ himself speaks to remember his own story. A conceivable relationship with the liturgy of Good Friday is suggested and, according to a strong intertextuality with Venantius Fortunatus’ carmina, and especially with hymns of the Holy Cross, the poem has been proposed to be dated at the end of the sixth century or in a shortly period after.

Abstract
The Carmen de passione domini, attributed to Cyprian or Lactantius, is an anonymous poem for which several hypotheses of dating have been proposed. This article analyzes the content, structure and style of the poem: the author is consciously about Classical and Christian poetic tradition, and dramatizes the Holy Passion narrative by means of an epigraphic setting of the text, in which crucified Christ himself speaks to remember his own story. A conceivable relationship with the liturgy of Good Friday is suggested and, according to a strong intertextuality with Venantius Fortunatus’ carmina, and especially with hymns of the Holy Cross, the poem has been proposed to be dated at the end of the sixth century or in a shortly period after.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
