Philosophy has long debated the epistemological status of historiography; several thinkers also questioned the political consequences that excessive or manipulative use of history could have in the public sphere. Starting from examining these positions, this article aims to analyze the memorial investment in collective tragedies interpreted in a traumatic sense. Therefore, we will call the society of commemoration the contemporary social organization. Here, a suffering history is celebrated to reinforce the feeling of collective identity and the legitimization of power in every Nation-States. About this history, only the victim can express the absolute truth.
