The Poem’s Dream Vision : The Echo of Guido da Pisa in the Ancient Exegetical Tradition of the Divine Comedy · This study examines the origins and evolution of the dream-vision interpretation of Dante’s «Commedia» among early commentators, with particular attention given to Guido da Pisa’s «Expositiones». Through close analysis of key textual loci and intertextual comparison with figures such as Pietro Alighieri and Benvenuto da Imola, it argues that the oniric reading – long considered marginal – enjoyed broader circulation and exegetical relevance than was previously assumed. The findings contribute to a reassessment of this interpretative line, highlighting a discontinuous yet meaningful tradition within the early reception of the poem.
