How do immigrant women in Western countries turn obstacles into business opportunities? Using an interpretive and longitudinal approach, we analyse the cases of six women from Syria, Morocco, Lebanon, Italy, Argentina, and Cuba with businesses in the UK, Italy, and Spain. We identify five key disadvantages that shape their entrepreneurial journeys: gender, foreignness, origin, newness, and smallness. Their stories reveal these women navigate complex social and institutional barriers by creating and adapting opportunities that help them gain legitimacy and move their ventures forward in often unfamiliar and challenging environments.

Abstract
How do immigrant women in Western countries turn obstacles into business opportunities? Using an interpretive and longitudinal approach, we analyse the cases of six women from Syria, Morocco, Lebanon, Italy, Argentina, and Cuba with businesses in the UK, Italy, and Spain. We identify five key disadvantages that shape their entrepreneurial journeys: gender, foreignness, origin, newness, and smallness. Their stories reveal these women navigate complex social and institutional barriers by creating and adapting opportunities that help them gain legitimacy and move their ventures forward in often unfamiliar and challenging environments.File in questo prodotto:
