This essay examines the process of fitting out the new chancel of Pavia Cathedral, where three stone pieces from Civic Museums of Castello Visconteo have been reused. The three pieces form part of a very large collection of fragments and architectural elements salvaged from the demolition of Pavia’s medieval cathedrals and deposited by the Duomo Fabbriceria in the Civic Museums. The new installation stands as an example of contemporary reuse, but it also raises questions regarding the history of conservation, the dispersal and the museum display of these elements.

Abstract
This essay examines the process of fitting out the new chancel of Pavia Cathedral, where three stone pieces from Civic Museums of Castello Visconteo have been reused. The three pieces form part of a very large collection of fragments and architectural elements salvaged from the demolition of Pavia’s medieval cathedrals and deposited by the Duomo Fabbriceria in the Civic Museums. The new installation stands as an example of contemporary reuse, but it also raises questions regarding the history of conservation, the dispersal and the museum display of these elements.File in questo prodotto:
