The article is meant to highlight the function of subtitled films in foreign language classrooms, specifically focusing on how they contribute to building a language-friendly environment and stimulating the creation of effective teaching/learning strategies. In particular, it attempts to show how the application of some cognitive notions can improve the subtitler's ability to translate subtitles and can offer language learners the opportunity to enrich their linguistic intake through regular exposure to audiovisual subtitled products.
