Abstract

We investigate the functional structure of the macrobenthos in the North Adriatic Sea. A Biological Traits Analysis was performed to analyse a dataset of 156 species. BTA uses life-style and life-cycle traits to indicate the ecological role of species. Bioturbation level, type of movement and habit has resulted the most relevant traits. The results confirm that opportunistic traits are beneficial in disturbed areas.
