The aim of this selected bibliography, therefore, became primarily that of providing a picture of some new directions emerging in the field of Translation Studies in the last ten years or so. We also looked, however, at some traditional areas that in the same years received new impulse by advances in research, Machine Translation being a fitting example. In selecting the titles, we have by no means aimed at being exhaustive; in describing a field such as Translation Studies at the beginning of the new millennium, exhaustiveness has probably become an unattainable ideal, such is the number of titles published each year and the proliferation of different perspectives and angles from which translation is observed and researched. The idea behind this bibliography was, rather, to indicate a few titles that can be associated with either the emergence or the consolidation of new directions in research. In selecting the titles, then, quite a few recent, important works have been left out, especially among those that build on approaches that had already firmly established themselves in earlier periods than the one we are considering. A case in point here would be works reporting on research in empirical studies (especially process-oriented studies), currently a dynamic area of research whose consolidation, however, can be traced back to the period immediately following the publication of Wolfgang Lörscher and Hans P. Krings’s works in the 1980s.
