A three-component system in which two non-equivalent ferrocene fragments are appended to a metallocyclam subunit has been prepared through an Ni(II) template synthesis. The system undergoes two distinct and consecutive reversible one-electron oxidation processes centred on the two ferrocene fragments, but decomposes on oxidation of the Ni(II) centre.
