Horizontal saccadic eye movements were measured in 6 healthy subjects by bitemporal DC electro-oculography (EOG). Eye position was A/D converted, and eye velocity was digitally computed for each saccade. Saccades were parametrized by a set of global parameters defined as the moments of the saccade velocity profile, considered as a probability density function. When compared to more traditional local parameters, such as those considered in the so called "main sequence", global parameters provided comparable or more comprehensive information and proved less noise dependent. Theoretical comparison of noise dependence, based on model simulation is presented.

Abstract

Horizontal saccadic eye movements were measured in 6 healthy subjects by bitemporal DC electro-oculography (EOG). Eye position was A/D converted, and eye velocity was digitally computed for each saccade. Saccades were parametrized by a set of global parameters defined as the moments of the saccade velocity profile, considered as a probability density function. When compared to more traditional local parameters, such as those considered in the so called "main sequence", global parameters provided comparable or more comprehensive information and proved less noise dependent. Theoretical comparison of noise dependence, based on model simulation is presented.
