ABSTRACT. This paper aims at focusing some conceptual features and methodological trends of Etruscan studies in Italy shortly before and during the fascist régime (1919-1942). A large bibliography on Etruscan subjects is investigated, including well-known archaeologists as Giuseppe Cultrera, Pericle Ducati, Carlo Anti, Alessandro Della Seta, Giulio Quirino Giglioli and others, and so the début of younger scholars as Ranuccio Bianchi Bandinelli and Massimo Pallottino. The main point of such an interesting debate was that Etruscan civilization, too – although belonging to a people of possiby Near-Eastern origin – had to find some consistent place within the frame of a very Italian national history of culture and art.
